About NCLEX:
NCLEX (National Council Licensure EXamination) is an exam for the licensure of nurses in the United States. The 2 types are the NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurse) and the NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurse).
NCLEX examinations are developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN). NCSBN administers these examinations on behalf of its member boards which consist of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.
Taking NCLEX is a two-step process:
1) First you need to submit an application online or paper for licensure to the board of nursing where you wish to be licensed. This is in order to be made eligible to take the NCLEX. Be sure to meet the board of nursing's application deadline.
2) Second you need to register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE (Visual User Environment) online or via Phone.
The percentage of test questions assigned to each category and subcategory of the NCLEX-RN Test Plan is as follows:
Percentage of Items from Each Category/Subcategory
1) Safe and Effective Care Environment
• Management of Care 16-22%
• Safety and Infection Control 8-14%
2) Heath Promotion and Maintenance 6-12%
3) Psychosocial Integrity 6-12%
4) Physiological Integrity
• Basic Care and Comfort 6-12%
• Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies 13-19%
• Reduction of Risk Potential 10-16%
• Physiological Adaptation 11-17%
Thank you for reading about NCLEX and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Harish Malik.
